The preliminary training lasts until the age of 6 months and it practically coincides with the maturing of the memory functions. The working schedule involves the following stages: stimulating the puppy, shaping up a reflex, consolidating and fixing the reflex.

After refusing the food, the dog shall eat only from its bowl. Absolutely any kind of food shall be refused (meat, salami, sweets, fruit). Food should be refused both from strangers and from the ground.

Getting the dog used to taking certain things in its mouth (toys, sticks, metal objects, bottles) and fetching them to the master for playing with them. Things will be fetched both from off the ground and from the water, especially for hunting dogs. Fetching represents a native instinct for many dogs.
